Huskies All Stars - 2018 AYF

Congratulations to two of our 14U Huskies Football players:

Firoz Davis and Alex Uryniak

2018 AYF 8th Grade All Star Team Members

Firoz and Alex are Florida bound for the Annual AYF All Star Game. This game was established to allow the older participants, those leaving youth football, the opportunity to travel, make new friends, work together and experience participation with kids and coaches from all over the country. It should be understood that while the participation is a competition for the football players, it is the exposure and experience being offered to the kids that is the most important feature of this effort. Winning is the result of the contest. The reward is the wisdom gained from this opportunity.

CANNING

We have an urgent need for coverage this Saturday (11/17) for canning at Shop Rite due to the Big East Region Cheer Competition in Trenton being the same day

Can you help out by signing up for a shift with your athlete this Saturday? Canning isn't just about raising money for the program. Canning allows our athletes to feel a sense of pride of ownership with the Huskies and continue to work as a team on and off the field. It also provides an outlet to raise awareness for the Huskies Organization and our mission (pasted below):

HUSKIES MISSION: To implant in the youth the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, and reverence so that each youth may be finer, stronger, happier, and grow to be confident and strong contributors to our community. Bear in mind that the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or winning of games is secondary to the molding of future men and women.
The shift we have an urgent need for is below (though you may sign up for other shifts as well)

Saturday, 11/17/2018 - ShopRite - 50 Wal-Mart Plaza, Clinton, NJ 08809 (9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1-3pm, 3-5pm)

Full Link to Signup Page:
Please email hunterdonhuskies@outlook.com and/or text Kim anytime if you need assistance signing up for a shift.

Thank you all!

Please click this link to sign up for a shift for Organizational Canning for Nationals. (Please note that each cheerleader athlete is required to can 2 shifts, whether or not you opted in or out for the team and individual fundraising program.) Parent/guardian shifts do not count toward the requirement.

Current Schedule: (updated 11/2 4:15pm)

Perryville Wine & Spirits - 72 NJ-173, Hampton, NJ 08827

Perryville Wine & Spirits 72 NJ-173, Hampton, NJ 08827

Perryville Wine & Spirits 72 NJ-173, Hampton, NJ 08827

Perryville Wine & Spirits 72 NJ-173, Hampton, NJ 08827
Please ensure that you do not sign up for a date/time slot that conflicts with cheer practice or competitions.
There are signup slots for “athletes” and “parent/guardians’ for each location, by shift. When you login to your Hunterdon Huskies account you can use your login to select an athlete and/or parent/guardian volunteer shift and it will credit your family account. There's a 2:1 ratio for supervision children for each time slot. If you want to stay and the parent slots are filled, feel free to stay. If you want to can with another family, please reach out and discuss offline, there is no option to see who signs up online for privacy purposes.

Please decorate and bring a can for each athlete. Be creative with Huskies name/logo boldly displayed.

Please bring a ziploc type bag and permanent marker - each canning shift should place their collections in ziploc bags and write the location, time slot and names of the athlete who canned on the bag. The bags will be collected periodically, minimally at the end of the last shift. There is no need to count the money - it is not safe to do so. We will track and make visible how much was collected.

For each location, the 1st shift should let a manager/customer service know that we have arrived, and last shift should let them know we are leaving and thank them.

Note that cheerleaders should be in full uniform, with Huskies jacket, gloves, hat, pants, etc as needed, when they are canning. Football players should wear their jersey.

At least 2 athletes and 1 adult should be at each entrance & exit. Please do not leave athletes unattended; at least 1 adult should be with them at all times. The sign-ups are designed with a minimum 2:1 ratio of athlete to adults. Remember safety first - do not wander around the parking lot and stay back from the curbs.

While canning, SMILE and POLITELY ask for a donation to support for the Huskies journey to Nationals in Florida. Thank everyone, wish them a nice day, even if they do not donate.

If you have any questions at all or need to change your shift please text Kim at 201-320-3194 or email hunterdonhuskies@outlook.com.

**If for any reason you cannot cover your shift last minute, please reach out to a member of your cheer or football team to cover so we have full support on the shift.

Thank you for your effort and participation!

If you have any problems siging up please email hunterdonhuskies@outlook.com or text 201-320-3194 for assistance.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Oct 14 - Huskies 14U 29 – River Plaza 8

The Hunterdon Huskies 14U took a tough loss at River Plaza last weekend 28-8.  The Huskies had an uncharacteristically mistake filled half as they fell behind 20-0, which included 2 insides kicks and a last play of the half touchdown by River Plaza.  The second half was even as the teams each scored a touchdown.  The Huskies 14U will finish their season at home vs Fords at 1:30pm on Sunday.  It is the last home game for our 8th Graders and they will be honored before the game.

Oct 14 - Huskies 10U 12 – Freehold 6

Hunterdon 10U was on the road for a playoff deciding game against Freehold Revolution, the team who dethroned an undefeated Fords one week earlier.  The Revolution has always played the Huskies tough.  Last year the Huskies won 14-7 in one of their toughest games of the season.  The defensive minded Huskies game planned all week to counter the aggressive offense of Freehold.  "We get film for a reason and it is an invaluable tool.  Preparation is the 12th man on the field.  We were prepared," said Coach Sauchelli.  The Huskies scored mid-way through the first quarter but were unable to move the ball easily and gave Freehold an opportunity to equalize in the fourth quarter.  The fourth quarter ended in a 6-6 tie sending this division game into overtime.  Winning the coin toss, the Huskies took possession first, scoring with ease and putting the dogs up 12-6.  With the spotlight on the defense, a calm Hunterdon team took their places ready to put an exclamation on a very tough win.  The series would end on 4th down with the Revolution's franchise running back taking the ball to the 2-foot line.  "An overtime win against one of the best teams in our division really sums up how competitive the North Division is this year.  I am so proud of the boys," said Coach Ramaci. The Huskies 10U are tied with Fords for 1st place.  Sunday's home game will determine who takes first place and who gets the first-round bye in the playoffs.

Oct 14 - Huskies 8/9U 6 - Ocean 20

“They just kept coming in”….exclaimed special teams coordinator and assistant coach Sean Callanan at the conclusion of book check prior to this week’s contest against a 28-man roster of the River Plaza Chargers. Although they had the man power - doubling our roster - one thing the Chargers didn’t count on was the heart and desire of the Hunterdon Huskies to play the game they love. Heart and desire that put the Chargers on notice in the first half, forcing the Chargers to make 2nd half adjustments. For the majority of the first 2 quarters of play, the Huskies trailed the Chargers 7-6 until a breakaway TD before the close of the half put the Chargers up by a score of 14-6. In the 2nd half only one more touchdown would be scored against the Husky defense, but unfortunately a couple of bad breaks could not put our offense into the end zone in the 2nd half. Noteworthy on offense however was numerous complete passes as well as favorable execution of new plays and formations never seen before on game day. The leadership and maturity your 8/9 team left on the field this past weekend is extremely commendable. Once again, your 8/9 team walked off the field winners. They walked off the field fulfilled and complete while knowing that they once again played better than the week before. At the close of the game, each one of them proclaimed to the coaching staff and their teammates that they love playing the game of football together as a team; win or lose. With all hands together and a scream of “FAMILY” your young dogs began mentally preparing for the Jackson Jaguars next Sunday at Union Forge Field as they headed north on the Garden State Parkway.

Flag Wrap Up will be included next week

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Oct 7 - Huskies 14U 26 - Rumson 6

The Huskies 14U had an important divisional game on Sunday against Rumson.  The weather was perfect for the noon kickoff and the Huskies came ready to play taking down the Dawgs 26-6.  The Huskies would go ground and pound early running behind some great blocking by the offensive line.  With QB Alex Grantham back in action he led a nearly 6-minute drive for a touchdown.  To put the Huskies up 8-0.  The Huskies would then turn to the air game. Anthony Moscatello would catch two touchdowns, including one with no time left in the first half.  Danny Delusant made a beautiful over the shoulder catch on a 40yd pass for a touchdown.  Perhaps the best grab of the day was Jake Macce.  Usually the center, Macce lined up as a receiver, made a fingertip grab down the middle and rumbled for 15 more yards.  The defense was tough as ever as the Dawgs had no room to run.  The pass defense surrendered only one completion with Kente Edwards patrolling the secondary.   The Huskies battle Sunday against River Plaza with the winner taking home a first round bye.

Oct 7 - Huskies 10U 6 – Matawan 13

The Hunterdon Huskies 10U traveled to Matawan for an intense division game which would pit Huskies vs Huskies.  The Hunterdon Huskies scored on their first drive, going up 6-0.  After an on sides recovery, the Huskies went back on offense, but stalled in the red zone.  After 16 plays, Matawan took over on offense and was quick to score, going up 7-6.  Moving the ball with ease, Hunterdon traveled down the field but again Matawan's defense tightened up in the RZ and the Hunterdon Huskies turned the ball over on downs.  Matawan went to work deep in their own territory and produced another TD, putting the Matawan up 13-6 at halftime.  The second half would wind up scoreless, with the Hunterdon moving the ball down the field, only to be stopped short of equalizing.  "We controlled the time of possession.  We had more yards on offense.  The boys played a near perfect game, but we could not finish.  We learned a lot and will look to improve before another big weekend," said Coach VanVolkenburgh.

On a side note, Fords lost to Freehold, creating a 4-way tie with Hunterdon, Matawan, Freehold and Fords.  The next 2 weeks will see all four (4) 1st place teams square off in what will be a wild run into playoffs.

Oct 7 - Huskies 8/9U 0 - Ocean 7

They just won’t stop playing the game they love. Win or lose, your Husky 8/9 team left a big footprint in the turf in Ocean Township this past weekend as they faced off against the Ocean Spartans. The game was scoreless with the exception of a returned interception with less than 2 minutes to go in the first half. “Our defense had the best game of the season”  exclaimed a proud defensive coordinator and assistant coach Joe Delusant. The defense forced 5 punts on the Spartans who had a very rough time registering many first downs. “When they went for it, we shut them down all but once allowing our offense to spend much time on the field” added Coach Delusant. With the Husky offense on the field a considerable more amount of time than the Spartans, the young dogs had many opportunities to take to the air for forward advancement. A few miscues however led to not posting any guest numbers on the scoreboard. Moving on to week 7, Dominic Masin and Dane Zagarino were named captains for the week. Masin, who over the last few weeks has made tremendous progress on both the practice field and game day had his strongest showing of the year on the defensive line. Zagarino, who engulfs the true meaning of the word TEAM, misses many games due to a personal commitment on Sundays. However, he still arrives each week to practice and works out with his team preparing them for game day. Your 8/9 team travels south once again to take on the River Plaza Chargers this Sunday at 10:30. This weekend’s contest will not only be another pay day for the boys, but will also be payback.

Flag Football

Hunterdon Huskies hosted the JSAYF Flag Football Alliance at Union Forge Field on Saturday October 6th.  The Huskies squared off against division rival, Manalapan Braves.  Manalapan Braves scored first, which was a wakeup call to this young but tough team.  The Huskies answered the call with a long touchdown of their own off a QB keeper from Michael Kozmisnski.  On the productive run, "Koz" caught two key blocks from Aiden Kumpf and Noah Florez.  With two quick scores on the board and the early game jitters out of the way, both defenses began slowing down the ball movement.  Jacob Stanley and Jack Taylor helped keep the Huskies D line dominant.  In the defensive secondary, Tyler Bilyj and Mason Burd put on a clinic with great pursuit and some amazing flag pulls.  Coach Kozmisnski summed up the day, "We are a very young and defensive minded team who have advanced very far in a short amount of time.  The future is really bright for these young men."

After the game, the team celebrated with a pizza party.  After the feast, the young pups picked up another game against Fords, since Asbury Park no showed.  Thanks to all the parents and kids who stayed to ensure the boys from Fords had a game.
